November is the month of the year when a moustache appears on many faces. Some people choose to grow a moustache for fashion, while others do it for Movember.

Movember is a month-long event aiming to promote men's health, including prostate cancer and mental health. These two causes particularly appeal to me, because they have affected my family and some of my colleagues.

In 2018, my paternal grandfather died of metastasized prostate cancer. It only took a few months between the onset of his symptoms, his diagnosis and his death. According to the Canadian Cancer Society, about one man in nine will be diagnosed with this disease in their lifetime. My grandpa was one of them.

At my workplace, in the information technology field, several of my colleagues have been absent for weeks due to mental health reasons. One of them has even tried to kill himself. I am alarmed to see so much psychological distress around me. We need to talk about it. According to Movember, on average, one man dies by suicide every minute each day.

In 2020, I have chosen to participate for the eighth consecutive year in Movember and to raise donations to help finance initiatives aimed at extending men's lives. I hope I can reach my goal of $ 200.

If you would like to give something, you can go to my Mo space below and click on the big blue button titled "DONATE TO BENJAMIN".

Together we can change the face of men's health.
